The Opportunity
The Brandon Public Library, originally built in 1897, had long served the community - but the space could no longer meet modern needs.
The facility was small, outdated, and limited in its ability to support programming, technology, and community gatherings.
At the same time, the community had a strong attachment to the library and a clear desire to preserve its presence on Main Street.
The goal was simple - but not easy: expand and modernize the library while maintaining its historic character and community identity.
Our Approach
Keys to Success
Baker Street Consulting Group conducted a planning and feasibility study, then partnered with the library and a volunteer-led campaign committee to design and execute a capital campaign.
We worked closely with local leadership to:
Develop a clear and achievable campaign plan
Equip volunteers with tools and confidence to lead
Create messaging that resonated with the community
Provide ongoing coaching to maintain momentum
The campaign was intentionally built to be community-driven - reflecting Brandon’s size, relationships, and strengths.
Strong local leadership and volunteer ownership
Early momentum through key gifts and challenge grants
Broad participation from individuals, families, and businesses
A shared belief in keeping the library at the heart of the community
Persistence through challenges, including pandemic delays and rising costs
